My experiment with intermittent fasting seems to be going well. I’ve lost just under 5 pounds in the last two weeks, plus my flu like symptoms from Lyme and Epstein Barr are lower. So it seems to be working for me.
I did have to change the amount of time that I am fasting, though. I was hoping to do it for 14 hours a day, but that just didn’t work for me. I’m on two medications that make me hungry all the time, and when I was doing the 14 hour fast every day I got so hungry that it was disrupting my sleep. So, I decided to fast from 9:30 pm to 9:30 am, with only eating a light snack like yogurt at 9:30 pm. This seems to be working better for me. I’m not losing weight as fast but at least I’m not going to bed starving.
I’ve also settled on an exercise routine. I’ve decided that I’m going to try to do yoga every other day and cardio on my off days. I might change this around some depending on how I feel and the weather (for hiking), but I’m going to stick to this overall schedule. I’m hoping to do yoga about 4 days a week and cardio about three. I am actually really proud of myself, too, because yesterday I went on an hour long walk. That’s longer than I usually go for. It may not seem like a lot to most of you, but for someone who is sick like I am an hour of walking is a big deal.
I’m also up to 45 minutes of yoga at a time as well. On Wednesday I did 45 minutes of Vinyasa yoga, a gratitude flow. I really liked it. I’m enjoying doing yoga and getting more flexible and strong.
So, overall, things are going pretty well for me right now. I’m losing weight, I’m thinking about things other than the trauma I went through, and I’m able to relax.
