A Publisher Is Interested in My Children’s Book!

I got an email from a publisher yesterday (Who Chains You) stating that they have possible interest in publishing my children’s book “Silver and Spot Find a Home.” I need to find an illustrator, though, who knows the Gig Harbor area (the book takes place in Gig Harbor, the town that I grew up in). They said that the illustrations in my book will be more detailed than they can provide. I’m going to ask my Aunt to illustrate it, and if she can’t, I’m going to bite the bullet and try it myself. I was a very good artist up until high school but haven’t drawn since then. I’m 37. It’s looks like I might have to relearn this skill, though, just like I relearned how to write. We’ll see.

I was actually quite shocked that a publisher is interested in my first book. Everyone told me not to get my hopes up, that new writers never get published on the first try. It looks like in my case they might be wrong though!

I’m very excited about all of this and am feeling really pretty good about myself– better than I have in a long time, anyways. It seems like I am doing and making the right decisions in my life if I can get to a place like this.
